Primer photos of the International Marathon organized by NIGSA, held in Torres del Paine National Park, which is nearly two hours from Puerto Natales Magallanes. The race consisted of three legs starting at the new Puente Weber where Rio Paine meets Lago Toro. Runners from all over the world starting arriving around 8am to sigh up for the 42k and 21k race. The race counted off around 9:25 as the runners for the 21k left ahead in busses to the next starting point, above lookout Mirador Nordensköld. The wind picked up once out of the hills of Rio Paine and coming around Lago Pehoe. Australian Luke Myers took off ahead and the group began to split off as they climbed the steep hills near Hotel Explora.
The wind was blowing strong and sharp as winners from the first and second rounds cught up with the 10k prancing in the cold and warming up for the last kick down the long winding hills where the guanaco graze. The race started 3km from the entrance at Laguna Amarga. The runners crossed the narrow bridge over Rio Paine and towards the Towers where a BBQ asado of lamb awaited everyone.
The race had participants young and old, from many parts of the world, meeting here in the southern patagonia to participate in an energized marathon they ran past blue glacier lakes and massive mountains covered in show and ice.
